FFXIV players are not deterred from trying to enter the game despite server congestions and several issues for the past week. Even with these issues, FFXIV still reigns supreme in the MMORPG genre.

Final Fantasy XIV is at its peak following its Endwalker expansion. The reigning king of theme-park MMORPGs has seen its player base double even further over the past few months. The newest expansion proved to be so popular that it has caused server congestions and longer queue times. Square Enix has since taken drastic measures by stopping its sales to combat server issues. The move has barred new players from trying out the game and earning FFXIV gil. Despite these issues, current players are not deterred and are still willing to sit through long queues just to get in the game. The continuous rise in server population and commitment shown by its current player base has shown how Final Fantasy XIV stands atop the MMORPG hill.

How Did FFXIV Become the King of MMOs?

FFXIV’s current status can allude to the fall of the previous king of MMORPGs, World of Warcraft. The WoW has been riddled with issues and scandals that have made players disappointed and disillusioned with the game. Though many gamers have already claimed that FFXIV became the reigning king during 2020, it was what happened in July 2021 that cemented its title. A mass exodus of WoW players occurred as thousands of gamers flock to the world of Eorzea as they leave Azeroth behind. As more people pop up in the game to play and earn FFXIV Gil, servers became congested. This was the first instance where Square Enix stopped selling copies or codes of the game to figure out how to resolve the server issues.

Though many attribute FFXIV’s success to WoW’s failure, Square Enix’s game is a wonderful and masterful game that has been critically acclaimed by fans and critics. FFXIV has garnered more praise from gamers and experts after the game released the Endwalker expansion. The popularity of the expansion has caused issues reminiscent of what happened during July 2021 as devs stopped selling copies of the game to figure out a resolution to server issues. Before the expansion, FFXIV had around 2 million active players. As Endwalker rolled out, active players soared to nearly 4 million which is double the previous count. The current population is a league above other MMORPGs as both WoW and Runescape are estimated to have an active player count of around 1 million.

Endwalker’s Popularity

Endwalker is looking to be FFXIV’s most successful expansion so far. The newest expansion brings a satisfying conclusion to the Warrior of Light’s epic story as players save the world of Eorzea from the apocalyptic Final Days. Gamers are given the chance to fight the former primal god, Zodiark, and the patron goddess, Hydaelyn before they face off against Meteion’s apocalyptic version, the Endsinger. These story bosses can be fought during the Dark Inside, the Mothercrystal, and the Final Day trials respectively. The Dark Inside and the Mothercrystal trials also have extreme modes that provide great rewards to players.

Loyal fans of FFXIV are also introduced to the newest class in the expansion, the Sage and the Reaper. The Sage is a support-type class that can provide strong heals and support spells. Sages use floating daggers as their primary weapons as they provide support for their teammates during raids. The Reapers are strong dps characters that can call on specters from the void to help them in battles or inhabit them to become their avatars. Reapers are dual-scythe wielders, similar to Sice from Type-0, who slice up their enemies with ethereal powers. These classes are immensely popular as thousands of players race to unlock these two jobs.

Aside from the new classes and trial bosses, fans are also treated with new dungeons, new regions, an increased level cap, and an expanded version of the Trust system. The best part is that the expansion hasn’t’ even rolled out the new raids. Square Enix is teasing the community with high-difficulty raids such as Pandaemonium and Myths of the Realm. These new raids are expected to come out at the end of December.

No Threats So Far

As far as FFXIV is concerned, no other MMORPG is close to dethroning the current king. Square Enix is doing a fantastic job on its content from the game’s marvelous story to its breathtaking visuals and content. The game is millions of players above other competitors, and the player count is not coming down anytime soon. Though the sales of the expansion have been halted, it is still expected that more gamers will be joining the World of Eorzea once sales are resumed. As more players explore the popular MMORPG’s world and earn FFXIV Gil, Final Fantasy XIV is expected to continue to soar and reign supreme in the MMORPG genre.
